MINDIYA

About

Hello! I'm Mindiya and I'm a songwriter and musician in Washington, D.C.I started writing songs during a period in which I was working from home every day and had a Little Martin acoustic guitar on a stand next to me. I'd never done it seriously before, but suddenly, these songs were pouring out of me. I couldn't go a week without writing a new one. But I was plagued with self-doubt – were these songs any good? Were they catchy? Were they impactful? During the writing process, I sent iPhone voice memos of the songs to close friends, asking these questions. My friends were honest with me. They helped me throw out a hundred songs – and pick five that I wanted to finish and record. Thus was Gut Check, my debut EP, born. Each song is the product of countless hours, collaboration, frustration, and awe. My friends play on the record. They made the album art and the merch. I'm so happy to share all of our work with the world now. Thanks for listening.

"The lyricism and emotion behind songs like The Local News came through even in a lo-fi Facebook messenger recording; with full production, it becomes a tour de force. It’s amazing to know a song in both universes, to see a line like 'I’m terrified of death, I think it comes from never wanting this to end” shine in a simple acoustic recording and merit the weight of a full choral arrangement.'"
